What is it with the Obama “savior” motif?
Example #1 is courtesy of Jamie Foxx at the 2012 Soul Train Awards. In the clip he asks the crowd to acknowledge President Obama as their “Lord and Savior.” The crowd enthusiastically responds.
Example #2 is courtesy of artist, Michael D’Antuono and his painting entitled, Truth. The painting is part of an exhibit on display at Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery.
There are others, but these are just the two that made headlines today!

My guess is that it’s part of the larger cultural obsession with saviours and lords and persecuted heroes. If you are implying that it’s silly and counter-productive in a modern rational society, then I agree.
From a larger standpoint, however, humans have always had this obsession as an underlying motif. It has been exhaustively covered by Joesph Campbell in his Hero with a Thousand Faces, for example.
I had just seen an article regarding the painting, and wasn’t aware of the Jamie Foxx clip until seeing it here. It never ceases to amaze me what passes for “art” and/or “artistic expression” today. It hasn’t been that long ago that such antics would have meant either the end of a career or would have resulted in massive protests of outrage. The world is going mad!
